Vendors will promise the moon, lock you into proprietary hardware, harvest your students' data, and leave you with a system that does less than what you paid for.

The opportunity

Everything described in this blueprint is achievable today, with existing hardware and open-source or freely licensable software. It costs no more than the inferior systems being sold to you.

Arm Yourself With Knowledge

Your job is not to build this alone. Your job is to know the standard, so that when a vendor walks through the door, you can ask the right questions and walk away if they can't answer them.

What Vendors Will Do

  • ⚠️Promise "all-in-one" solutions designed to create permanent dependency on a single vendor
  • ⚠️Push biometric systems, facial recognition, fingerprints, framed as cutting-edge safety
  • ⚠️Require proprietary hardware so you can't swap components or renegotiate later
  • ⚠️Collect and monetize student data in ways buried deep in terms of service
  • ⚠️Offer "free" tools that are data extraction pipelines in disguise
  • ⚠️Deploy technology first, with training as an afterthought — or no training at all

What You Have the Right to Demand

  • Hardware agnosticism — any school computer, any compatible reader should work with your software
  • Software agnosticism — white-labeled tools you control; no brand propagandizing inside your schools
  • Privacy by default — local processing, zero-persistence, no cloud data mining of students
  • Training before deployment — staff and students educated before any tool is activated
  • No biometrics — ever, for minors, for any reason, from any vendor
  • Open or auditable code — no proprietary black boxes in your school's infrastructure
Non-Negotiables

Zero Preventable Harm, By Default

Not a goal. A design condition. Build it, buy it, or partner for it, but any implementation should meet at least these five standards before a single student or staff member touches it.

Open or auditable firmware. Vendor registration gates. Complete device inventories. No proprietary black boxes. Any alteration to infrastructure triggers an alert.

Local processing. Zero-persistence. No cloud data mining. No student PII ever licensed or sold. Families can opt out. Governance is transparent and public.

Accessible by Default

Design for the edge cases first. Every student gets the tools they need regardless of income, ability, or organizational skill. Accessibility is not an add-on.

Human-Supervised by Default

No automated decisions about discipline, grading, or student placement. AI identifies patterns. Humans act. Version control and rollback for every model deployed.

Training-Accompanied by Default

No tool touches a student or staff member without role-specific, just-in-time, ongoing education. Training is not optional. It is not an afterthought. It comes first.

What's Possible With Existing Technology

Everything below exists today. Some of it we've built. Others have built versions of it. None of it requires a federal program or a single vendor. All of it requires knowing what to demand.

Any implementation of this blueprint should be fully software-agnostic and white-labeled for each district. A provider's job is to make the system serve your community, not to propagandize their company, their AI models, or their brand inside your schools. Our work is one example of what's possible. It is not the mandate.

Rapport-First Mentorship AI

A mentorship AI trained for psychological balance, conflict resolution, and crisis management, not surveillance. Helps teachers plan lessons, supports student metacognition. User-controlled. Private. Never watching unprompted.

What to Ask Every Vendor

You now know what is possible. Use that knowledge. These questions separate systems built for students from systems built to extract from them.

If a vendor hesitates, deflects, or says no to any of these, walk away. You are not obligated to accept an inferior system because someone has a good pitch deck.

This applies to every vendor. Including any group that shares this blueprint. Software agnosticism is not optional.

Does your system process student data locally, with zero persistence, nothing stored in the cloud without explicit, revocable consent?

Is your hardware agnostic, meaning it works with any school computer and any compatible reader, not just yours?

Can your software be fully white-labeled so it doesn't display your company name, brand, or AI model names inside our schools?

Does deployment require training for staff and students before the tool is activated, not after?

Does your system work entirely without biometrics, no facial recognition, no fingerprints, no iris scans, no exceptions for minors?

The safest school is not the one with the most cameras. It is the one where every adult is trained, every student feels seen, and every piece of technology answers to a human purpose.
